Two NMU women’s swimmers named as Academic All-Americans

MARQUETTE — Two members of the Northern Michigan University Women’s Swimming and Diving team have been recognized as academic All-Americans.

Graduate student Camilla Carbone and senior Doe DeKievit were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America second and third teams, respectively, in an announcement made by the CSC on Tuesday.

Carbone holds a 4.0 grade point average and this is her second-consecutive Academic All-American honor. Carbone has also recieved CSC Academic All-District honor. Beyond her classroom success, Carbone has also had success in the pool, with consecutive CSC Academic All-America and All-District awards, a second consecutive GLIAC Commissioner’s Awards, and three All-America honors that included first-team honors in the 100 backstroke and second-team honors as a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams. Carbone was also a GLIAC champion this year, claiming individual gold in the 100 back along with earning a silver medal in the 400 medley relay.

This is also the second-consecutive CSC Academic All-American honor for DeKievit, who also boasts a 4.0 GPA. A Health and Fitness education major, DeKievit adds CSC Academic All-America and All-District to her mantle, and is an All-American in the 200 and 400 medley relay, along with earning silver in the 400 medley relay at this years conference championships.
