MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University women’s golf team will be heading to Augusta, not that one, this weekend to compete in the 2025 GLIAC Championship.
Starting today and continuing through Sunday, the team will be looking to bring home some silverware from downstate Augusta course Stonehedge North.
The teams tee off at 10 a.m. today with 18 holes of stroke play, with 18 more tomorrow to determine the top four teams who will advance to semi-final match play Saturday evening before the final round being set for Sunday.
Team pairings will be based on the team’s most recent regional rankings. Six Wildcats will be traveling to the tournament.
Seniors Payton Dube and Maggie Pietila will be joined by junior Hailey Bolander, sophomore Gabriella Moreau and freshmen Abbie Pietila and Maddy Martens.
The field consists of nine of the 11 GLIAC member schools, including the second and fourth best teams in the region, No. 10 Grand Valley and No. 37 Ferris State. Since 2001, there have been 23 championships; Grand Valley and Ferris State have won a combined 22 of those, with GVSU holding 17, including five of the past six championships. GVSU boasts five of the top 11 ranked golfers in the region, lead by nationally ranked and reigning GLIAC Women’s Golfer of the Year, No. 10 Olivia Stoll.
Last year, the Wildcats finished sixth in the GLIAC Championships, which were also held at the same course.
