MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University sophomore Josie Lakosky of the women’s lacrosse team was honored earlier this week for the third time this season as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Also earning this Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference award for the second consecutive week, Lakosky set a Wildcats’ record for most points in a game last Saturday with 13 points in a 20-9 victory over nonconference opponent Lewis played in the Superior Dome.
She had previously set the same NMU record with 10 points in a neutral-site victory against Missouri Western barely a week earlier on March 7.
When Lakosky broke her eight-day-old record against Lewis, there were 23 minutes left in the game as she finished that day with seven goals and six assists.
The seven goals tied her single-game career best that she’d also had against Missouri Western, while the six assists vs. Lewis was a personal and NMU record, too.
Lakosky, who is from Victoria, Minnesota, leads both Northern (5-2) and the GLIAC in all four major offensive categories entering this weekend’s games that were scheduled against Indianapolis on Friday night and will be at Saginaw Valley State at 11 a.m. Sunday. The U-Indy game was being played at Grand Valley State’s home field in Allendale.
She came in with 29 goals for 4.14 per game, just about a goal and a half more than any other conference player, 13 assists for 1.86 per contest, 42 points for exactly six per game, and 57 shots for 8.14 per outing.
No other GLIAC player had even 3 3/4 points per game, and no other league athlete had even seven shots per game.
Lakosky has also reached 100 career points (74 goals, 26 assists) in 25 career games, already matching her 2024 freshman total of 13 assists in 11 fewer games.
Just for good measure, Lakosky also led the league in a nonoffensive category, draw controls, with 36 total for 5.14 per game.
