MARQUETTE — The public is invited to come watch for free as the Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team will host a pair of exhibition games in the Superior Dome on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats will play this doubleheader with just a short break between games, hosting Madison College at 1 p.m. and Bryant and Stratton at 4:30 p.m.

The Madison College Wolfpack of Madison, Wisconsin, are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association and finished last fall at 10-5-2 and lost in the NJCAA Division II regional quarterfinals to No. 1 seed Moraine Valley.

The Bryant and Stratton Bobcats’ Wisconsin campus is in Wauwatosa. Bryant and Stratton is also an NJCAA member and was 5-7-5 last fall, finishing its season with a 1-0 loss to South Suburban College of suburban Chicago in the NJCAA D-II Region 4 first round of the tourney.

NMU finished last fall with 6-8-2 overall and 3-8-1 GLIAC records, their most overall wins since 2019 and most under head coach Alex Fatovic.

Three players who are eligible to come back this fall earned conference postseason awards.

Sophomore defenseman Alessandro Scialanga was named to the GLIAC First Team after starting every game and leading the Wildcats in minutes played, also leading the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and a team-leading three assists. And he also led Northern with 35 shots.

Junior forward Tommaso Lami earned a spot on the GLIAC Second Team after he was named GLIAC Freshman of the year two years earlier. The Wildcats’ captain led NMU with four goals and tied Scialanga with nine points last season, registering the second-most minutes played on the team.

The Wildcats have three more exhibition matches scheduled this spring. NMU hosts Wisconsin-Superior at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, before heading to the Green Bay, Wisconsin, area to take on Wisconsin-Green Bay on April 18 and St. Norbert College in nearby De Pere on April 19.
