MARQUETTE — Senior Sam Dehlin and freshman Stella Dehlin swept both their races as the Marquette boys and girls each won titles at the Marquette Senior High School Invitational downhill ski meet held at Marquette Mountain on Tuesday.

Next up on the Sentinels’ schedule is a meet at Big Powderhorn in Ironwood on Monday.

Here are details from the boys and girls meets:

Sam Dehlin dominant for boys

Sam Dehlin won the boys slalom and giant slalom titles with his two-run combined times in each race. Between his four runs, he had the fastest run in three of them, the other the second-fastest run.

That helped the Sentinels boys post a near-perfect 25 points, claiming five of the top six and nine of the first 12 finishers in the slalom, along with four of the top five and 10 of the best 14 finishers in the giant slalom.

Houghton was runner-up in the boys meet with 55 points, while Ironwood had 112.

Sam Dehlin had runs of 34.47 and 34.77 seconds in the slalom for a combined time of 1:09.24, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Eli Heathman of Houghton, whose runs were 35.44 and 36.09 for 1:11.53.

Connor Henry of Marquette had runs of 36.12 and 35.82 for a third-place total of 1:11.94. Next were the Sentinels’ Benjamin Kuhl in fourth in 1:12.45, Brady Auduette fifth in 1:13.23 and Connor Dunn sixth in 1:13.49.

Also making the top 12 for MSHS were Lake Skytta eighth in 1:19.40, Jude Balding ninth in 1:19.97, Jameson Bishop 11th in 1:23.20 and Sam Uchytil 12th in 1:24.23. Also for Marquette, Garrett Crimmins was 16th, Nolan Dixon 19th and Seamus Waite 20th.

In GS, Sam Dehlin was a much closer winner, taking his victory by just 0.22 of a second over Skytta. Dehlin had runs of 32.46 and 32.27 seconds for 1:04.73, while Skytta was runner-up by making it down in 32.37 and 32.58 seconds for a 1:04.95 combined time.

Also for Marquette, Kuhl was fourth in 1:07.03, Henry fifth in 1:08.02, Audette seventh in 1:09.74, Balding eighth in 1:11.45, Dunn 10th in 1:12.37, Bishop 12th in 1:14.41, Uchytil 13th in 1:14.66 and Crimmins 14th in 1:14.73.

In addition for the Sentinels, Dixon was 20th and Waite 21st.

Stella Dehlin carves up girls’ course

Stella Dehlin had similar finishes to Sam Dehlin, posting the fastest runs three times out of four, just that she was dominant in the GS and won narrowly in slalom.

She led the Marquette girls to come even closer to perfection than the boys, posting 21 points as 20 would be perfect — a 1-2-3-4 finish in each discipline would add up to 10 points, doubled to reach 20. Norway was runner-up with 74, while Ironwood had 94 and Houghton 110.

The Sentinels had four of the top five in GS and swept the top five in slalom.

In GS, Stella Dehlin had the fastest times in each run, 34.95 and 34.42, for a combined time of 1:09.37, a more than two-second victory over runner-up and teammate Lucy Stern.

Stern had runs of 36.19 and 35.36 for 1:11.55, while Marquette’s Madalyn Croney had runs of 35.94 and 36.84 for a third-place total of 1:12.78.

The Sentinels’ Anna Bernard was fifth in 1:14.26, Lyla Isaacson 11th in 1:17.66, Cadyn Grim 12th in 1:20.30 and Laura Markey 13th in 1:20.66. In addition, Marquette’s Jillian Star was 18th, Anna Melka 19th, Ruby Burridge 21st and Layne Johnson 24th.

In slalom, Stella Dehlin had runs of 39.74 and 39.93 for a 1:19.67 total, just over a half-second ahead of runner-up Lucy Stern, whose runs of 39.52 and 40.69 added up to 1:20.21.

Ava Stern was third with runs of 40.82 and 40.50 for 1:21.32, while Isaacson was fourth with 1:22.46 and Croney fifth with 1:22.71.

In addition, Bernard was ninth in 1:26.18, Grim 10th in 1:33.29 and Star 13th in 1:37.77. Also for Marquette, Burridge was 17th, Markey 18th and Melka 24th.
