By Journal Sports Staff

CALUMET — Anabel Ollila tied for the victory in the vault as Marquette’s highlight at its first high school gymnastics meet of the season held Saturday at Calumet.

Team scores weren’t available in the meet held at Calumet, an eight-school cooperative of Copper Country schools.

But Ollila’s score of 8.90 on the vault tied for the highest single score on any of the four apparatuses in the meet.

She tied Calumet’s Nora Keranen for first place, with the Copper Kings’ Brooklyn Tatman a close third with 8.80.

“The girls did great for our first meet and we look forward to improving our skills based on the judges’ feedback for our next meet,” Sentinels head coach Alexandria Wilkinson said in an email detailing the results.

She said that her team’s next meet is at 1 p.m. Saturday back in Calumet.

Ollila also tied with Kendall Chipelewski for MSHS’ top all-around score of 32.25 points, the total of each competitor’s performances in the four events — vault, bars, beam and floor exercise.

In addition to her vault co-victory, Ollila also finished fourth in the other three — 6.80 on the bars, 8.25 on the beam and 8.30 on the floor.

Chipelewski was second on the floor with 8.60, tied with Tatman for second on the beam with 8.45, fourth on the vault with 8.50 and fifth on the bars with 6.75.

The top finishers in the all-around were from Calumet — Nora Keranen won with 34.70 points and Tatman was runner-up with 33.90.

In addition to her tie with Ollila in vault, Keranen won outright on the other three apparatuses — she had 8.35 on bars, 8.65 on beam and 8.80 on floor.

Tatman was second on the bars with 8.15, tied for second on the beam with 8.45, third on the floor with 8.50 and third on the vault with 8.80.

Also with all-around totals reported for Marquette were Lola Rink, fifth overall with 31.45 points, and Alexys Johnson, sixth with 30.00.

Rink’s top finish was on the bars, third with 7.80, while she was fifth on the beam with 7.95, sixth on the floor with 7.80 and sixth on the vault with 8.30.

Johnson was fifth on the floor with 7.90, sixth on the beam with 7.60, sixth on the bars with 6.70 and seventh on the vault with 8.20.

Marquette reported several other single apparatus scores. Elsa Henry was seventh on the beam with 7.30 and Alyssa Bonanni fifth on the vault with 8.40.
