MARQUETTE — For their efforts at the Great Lakes Invitational last week in Grand Rapids, a pair of Northern Michigan University hockey players were named CCHA players of the week.

Sophomore Tynan Ewart was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week, while senior Ryan Ouellette earned his honor as the CCHA Goaltender of the Week.

Ewart led league defensemen with his two assists, two points and eight blocked shots in the Wildcats’ 2-0 loss to national No. 1 Michigan State on Dec. 29 and 4-3 overtime setback to Upper Peninsula rival Michigan Tech on Dec. 30.

Ewart, from Duncan, British Columbia, had four blocks in each game as he recorded both assists in the third-place game vs. MTU.

Ouellette, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, made 41 saves with a CCHA-best .953 saves percentage in the semifinal loss to the Spartans in the opener, stopping 32 consecutive chances after giving up a pair of early goals.

He came out late in that game, apparently due to injury, and didn’t play in game vs. Tech.

The other two CCHA honorees came from MTU, junior Stiven Sardarian as CCHA Forward of the Week and freshman Logan Morrell as CCHA Rookie of the Week. Sardarian assisted on Morrell’s OT-winning goals vs. the Wildcats.
