MARQUETTE — Though team results weren’t kept, Marquette Senior High School hosted a meet to rival the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals in participation on Saturday.

The Splash-N-Dash included seven teams with just about 150 swimmers and divers, according to Sentinels’ head coach Nate McFarren.

“This meet sets the tone for the U.P. Finals and the rest of the year,” he said in an email detailing the results. “The meet is electrifying!

“Although points aren’t assigned to teams, it’s more about the races.”

Every swimming race was 50 yards long or made up of 50-yard-long legs when it came to relays, a total of seven races for boys and for girls. Diving was also included.

McFarren said his Sentinels swept all four relays between the girls and boys meets and more than half of the individual races.

In the girls relays, three Marquette swimmers swam on both winning quartets — Kaytlin Roell, Logan McFarren and Olive Krueger were on the MSHS’ winning 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relays.

The fourth medley relay member was Maija Talvensaari and the other member in the free relay was Sophie Hausmann.

Roell captured wins in both the 100 individual medley and 50 butterfly, while Hausmann won diving and Krueger the 50 free.

For the Marquette boys, the same four boys were on each winning relay, the 200 medley and 200 free.

They were Trevor Crandell, Jack Pozega, Chase Thomsen and Isaiah Youngren.

Individually, teammate Wyatt Ansell won diving by more than 30 points, while Crandell won the 50 free and 50 fly and Youngren took the 50 breaststroke.
