Ishpeming-Negaunee Gators, Manistique Emeralds win high school swimming and diving events at Negaunee pool
NEGAUNEE — The Ishpeming-Negaunee team had a pair of winners and Manistique had one in a high school boys and girls swimming and diving meets held at Negaunee High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Traditional Upper Peninsula power Houghton won all the other events to sweep the team titles.
In the boys meet, the Gremlins scored 152 points to 100 for the I-N Gators and 47 for Manistique.
For the girls, Houghton piled up 169 points as the Gators had 72 and Emeralds 48.
I-N’s winner in the girls meet was Lola Dockery in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minutes, 23.00 seconds.
For the boys, the Gators’ Joey Giroux captured the diving title with 160.55 points, while Manistique’s Ben Gilroy won the 500 freestyle in 6:57.44.
Of Houghton’s winners, a half-dozen in the boys meet posted MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals qualifying times as did five among the girls.
That included Aya Keteri doubling up in finals qualifying with her wins in the 200 free and 500 free.
