Trevor Crandell, Kaytlin Roell lead Marquette swimmers, divers to sweep at Kingsford
KINGSFORD — Trevor Crandell and Kaytlin Roell each had a hand in four victories to lead the Marquette boys and girls swimming and diving teams to victories at Kingsford on Thursday.
The Sentinels boys won eight of 11 events to post a decisive 110-57 victory, while the MSHS girls took six events en route to a much closer 97-73 win.
In the boys meet, Crandell won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races along with swimming a leg on his team’s victorious 200 medley and 200 free relays.
For the Marquette girls, Roell took the 500 free and 200 individual medley along with swimming legs on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.
MSHS head coach Nate McFarren noted his teams were “successful” at the meet in an email detailing the results.
The two Sentinels teams had another half-dozen multiple winners, too.
For the girls, Olive Krueger won the 100 free and 200 free while swimming with the 400 free relay victors, and teammate Sophie Hausmann swam with the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay winners.
The Marquette boys really mounted up the victories, partly because of sweeping all three relays.
Chase Thomsen won the 500 free and swam with the 200 free relay winners, while Isaiah Youngren took the 100 breaststroke and swam with the 400 free relay winners.
Thomsen and Youngren also teamed up on the victorious 200 medley relay.
Doubling up were Ethan Bridges winning the 200 free, Jack Pozega joining the 200 medley relay winners and Cade Kruhak teaming up on the 400 medley relays as all three of them swam on the victorious 200 medley relay.
Single winners included Gavin Mills for the Sentinels boys, and Logan McFarren, Maija Talvensaari and Natalie Schetter among the girls.
Marquette is scheduled to host Houghton at 10 a.m. today, then entertain Gladstone at 3:30 p.m. Monday before going to Rudyard at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
