Sager leads Sentinels boys to win at Westwood

ISHPEMING — Kyler Sager scored 25 points to lead Marquette Senior High School to a 75-54 high school boys basketball victory over Westwood at the Patriots’ gym on Monday evening.
Jacob MacPhee added 19 points and Jaxon Jurmu 11 to the winners’ side of the ledger, according to an email from MSHS head coach Rich Ledy.
Information wasn’t available about Westwood.
“Jaxon Jurmu had 11 (points) and ran the show very effectively,” Ledy said.
The Sentinels moved above .500 at 3-2 as they have two more games this week before beginning their holiday break.
Marquette travels to Sault Ste. Marie to play the Blue Devils at Lake Superior State’s Norris Events Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday, then comes home to host Iron Mountain at 8 p.m. Friday.
Westwood is also 3-2 after facing and losing to a pair of the biggest schools in the Upper Peninsula in its past two games — Kingsford and Marquette.
The Patriots host Negaunee at 6 p.m. Friday in the front half of a boys-girls doubleheader that evening.
WHS keeps busy around the holidays, hosting its Holiday Tournament by playing at home against Munising at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, and staying in west Ishpeming to face Jeffers at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27.
In addition, Westwood also hosts Gwinn at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30.
