MARQUETTE — A pair of Northern Michigan University athletes have been named to the 2024 All-America and Scholar All-America lists in women’s soccer.

Fifth-year senior midfielder Brooke Pietila was named to a pair of these honor squads, the Third Team All-America and Second Team Scholar All-America.

Junior midfielder-defender Hannah Kastamo was also named to the Second Team Scholar All-America squad.

Pietila capped off a record-setting final season after she was also named All-America and First Team All-Region by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association, Academic All-America and Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators, and First Team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches.

From the GLIAC, Pietila was named Offensive Player of the Year and to the First Team and All-Tournament Team.

She became Northern’s all-time career leader with 30 assists, five multi-assist games, 97 career games played and 95 career games started.

Kastamo earned an All-America honor to dovetail with the same distinction from the D2CCA, along with First Team All-Region by the D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches, and Academic All-District by the CSC.

In the GLIAC, Kastamo was the conference Defender of the Year and also named to the GLIAC First Team and All-Tournament Team.

Pietila and Kastamo join several recent teammates who earned All-American status by NMU women’s soccer players for the first time in 2023.

In that year, Molly Pistorius made Second Team All-America and Maria Storm the Third Team by the USC.

That organization also recognized Storm on the First Team and Pietila and Isabelle Brusilow on the Second Team for Academic All-America a year ago.
