Marquette boys basketball team wins twice last week

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School boys basketball team posted a pair of big victories last week, blasting Sault Ste. Marie 97-12 and dunking Iron Mountain 67-47.

In Wednesday’s game played against Sault Ste. Marie (0-5) at Lake Superior State’s Norris Events Center, Jacob MacPhee pumped in 33 points, while Kyler Sager added 13, Connor Fierstine 12 and Jaxon Jurmu 10 points to go with 11 assists.

At home against IM (5-1) on Friday evening, Jurmu led the way with 22 points, while MacPhee added 19.

The Mountaineers had not only won all their previous five games, but each of IM’s wins had been by at least 29 points, the closest a 70-41 win over Ishpeming last Monday.

The Sentinels (5-2, 1-0 Great Northern Conference) are now off until after the holidays as they resume action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, at home against league foe Kingsford.
