Jacob MacPhee leads Marquette Sentinels boys basketball team to 71-28 victory at Negaunee

NEGAUNEE — Jacob MacPhee scored 16 points to lead Marquette to a big 71-28 victory over Negaunee in a high school boys basketball game played Tuesday evening at Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium in Negaunee.

Jaxon Jurmu added 11 points and Ford Richardson 10 to the winning effort.

“(This was a) very well rounded game by everyone,” Sentinels head coach Rich Ledy said in an email detailing the result.

Marquette improved to 2-2 after taking a pair of losses in Traverse City last weekend.

During that trip, TC West won 70-65 and TC Central triumphed 82-80.

The Sentinels have three games in the coming week before taking a holiday break.

On Monday, they play at 6:45 p.m. at Westwood, then on Wednesday it’s a trip to Lake Superior State’s Norris Center to face Sault Ste. Marie at 7 p.m., and finally on Friday, MSHS returns home to host Iron Mountain at 8 p.m.

Negaunee slipped to 1-2 after posting a win a week earlier at Escanaba, 64-42.

The Miners head south to play at Menominee at 1 p.m. EST today, then like the Sentinels, have a trio of games next week before taking a break for the holidays.

Negaunee hosts Gladstone at 7:15 p.m. Monday before going to Manistique at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and to Westwood at 6 p.m. Friday. The Westwood game is the front half of a boys-girls varsity doubleheader that evening.
