Iron Mountain football head coach Robin Marttila resigns after 14 years as head coach
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain Board of Education has accepted — with regret — Robin Marttila’s resignation as head varsity football coach.
A 1997 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Marttila has coached 23 years at Iron Mountain, spending his first nine seasons as an assistant and the past 14 as head coach.
He led the Mountaineers to the playoffs 12 times and to the state semifinals three times — 2011, 2019 and 2022.
The Detroit Lions named Marttila the High School Football Coach of the Week in Michigan during October after the Mountaineers defeated Manistique 42-0 to improve their record to 8-0.
