Freshman Clarissa Wangen leads Northern Michigan University women wrestlers in meet in Chicago suburb
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Freshman Clarissa Wangen led the women’s wrestling team from Northern Michigan University by winning twice at the North Central College Invitational on Dec. 15 in the western suburbs of Chicago.
The Wildcats scored 14 points by winning seven times among a half-dozen wrestlers to finish 31st in a 41-team field.
Wangen earned her pair of victories in the 180-pound division, collecting a total of 5 1/2 points for NMU with a pair of victories by fall.
Sophomore teammate Ruby Joseph also competed at 180, getting one win via fall in the preliminaries, while yet another Northern sophomore at 180, Mickaela Keane, added a win by tech fall.
In the 160-pound division, freshman Sophia Bassino earned NMU four points with a win by decision along with a second victory coming by forfeit.
At 138, sophomore teammate Samantha Chaon won Northern 2 1/2 points, getting a victory by fall, while at 124, junior Zhivanna Magdaleno picked up a win by tech fall for two points.
Host North Central won the meet with 251 points, followed by Iowa at 148 1/2 and McKendree at 148.
These Wildcats will be back in action in two weeks, hosting Alma and Davenport in the Wildcats Duals at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.
