Northern Michigan University Wildcats’ Will Diamond named CCHA Rookie of the Week
MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University freshman forward Will Diamond was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week for his efforts in last weekend’s hockey series at nationally ranked Minnesota State-Mankato.
Playing in both games, the 6-foot-3 native of Carpentersville, Illinois, scored his first collegiate goal and earned his first collegiate point late in regulation of Saturday’s game that sent it into overtime as the Wildcats would eventually pick up a shootout victory to earn two points in the standings.
Diamond led all conference rookie players in goals for the weekend, scoring on his only shot on goal, and had a plus-1 rating for the two games.
He has played in seven games this season, having taken five shots and called for two minor penalties while blocking two shots.
The 1-10-1 Wildcats are off this weekend before getting back on the road to play at CCHA newcomer Augustana in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Nov. 29-30.
NMU returns home to host Ferris State on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7.
