NMU’s Weisbrod tops in the GLIAC

MARQUETTE — A pair of big scoring games convinced the GLIAC to name Northern Michigan University women’s basketball junior guard Jacy Weisbrod as the conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The La Crosse, Wisconsin, native led the Wildcats to a pair of victories as they are now 4-0 this season.
Playing for the first time in the team’s new home, Vandament Arena, Weisbord scored 26 points in an 85-69 victory over Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, then followed it up 24 hours later with 27 points in an 80-51 win over Bemidji State.
Weisbrod shot better than 50% in both games, hitting a total of 10 3-pointers over the pair of contests in the process. She was 10 of 16 (63%), including 6 of 9 (67%) on triples on Friday, then made 11 of 20 (55%) with 4 of 11 (37%) shooting on her 3s on Saturday.
Her point totals are the second- and third-highest in the league in this young season as she is currently third in GLIAC scoring at 16.5 points per game, and not surprisingly, leads all players with her 13 triples.
NMU and Weisbrod take their show on the road this weekend, playing a pair of 1 p.m. EST games in Minnesota, going to Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday and St. Cloud State on Sunday.
Both games are scheduled to be broadcast on radio station WUPT 100.3 FM The Point.
