Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff, Dan Campbell up for major NFL awards with ex-coordinators Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson also in running for honor

Detroit’s Jared Goff, Buffalo’s Josh Allen, Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley, Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson are finalists for The Associated Press 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player award.

Barkley, Burrow and Jackson also are finalists for Offensive Player of the Year and Burrow is also in the running for Comeback Player of the Year.

The winners will be announced at NFL Honors on Feb. 6. A nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league completed voting before the playoffs began.

Goff threw for 4,629 yards, 37 TDs, nine interceptions and led Detroit to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions were eliminated in the divisional round by Washington.

For Offensive Player of the Year, the finalists are Barkley, Burrow, Jackson, Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase and Baltimore’s Derrick Henry.

For Defensive Player of the Year, finalists are Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, Cleveland edge rusher Myles Garrett, Bengals All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, Denver All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II and Pittsburgh edge rusher T.J. Watt.

The Offensive Rookie of the Year race has Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers, Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels, New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers, Broncos QB Bo Nix amd Jacksonville receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

In the Defensive Rookie of the Year race, there are Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Braden Fiske, Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, Miami edge Chop Robinson and Rams edge Jared Verse.

Among those in the Coach of the Year race is the Lions’ Dan Campbell. He guided the Lions (15-3) to the NFC’s No. 1 seed.

The other finalists are Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell, Denver’s Sean Payton, Washington’s Dan Quinn and Kansas City’s Andy Reid.

And for Assistant Coach of the Year are Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Not from Detroit are Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Vikings DC Brian Flores.

And for Comeback Player of the Year are Burrow, Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins, Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez and Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
