Alex Tiseo leaving as Marquette Senior High School athletic director

Alex Tiseo
MARQUETTE — Marquette Senior High School is in the market for a new athletic director after current AD Alex Tiseo announced earlier this week that he has taken the same position at downstate Charlevoix High School.
“While the decision to accept a new position was not easy, the resources offered and location made the move to be in the best interests of my family and I,” Tiseo said in a news release he made on Tuesday.
“It has been my honor to serve my alma mater and hometown over the past seven years as MSHS athletic director. I will fondly look back on the positive contributions made for student-athletes during this time as well as the support received from colleagues, friends and staff along the way.”
Tiseo, 38, is a 2004 Marquette Senior High School graduate who took the job almost exactly seven years ago on May 22, 2017, following the departure of Blaise Zimmer.
He arrived just after the school’s new football field was inaugurated and was at the helm when the Barb Crill Gymnasium was added into the high school building.
Tiseo was a multisport athlete while attending MSHS, playing football, basketball and soccer as he was also a nordic skier and ran cross country and track and field.
He went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Michigan Tech in 2008, where he was a kicker on the Huskies’ football team, then received a master’s degree in business administration from Baldwin-Wallace in 2010.
Putting him on the path of athletics administration, he was a graduate assistant in athletics at Baldwin-Wallace and served an internship with the National Association of Collegiate Directors for Athletics.
That led to Tiseo becoming athletics department coordinator at the University of California-Riverside in the 2011-12 school year.
Then he held positions at two GLIAC schools before coming to Northern Michigan University in his hometown. He was assistant AD for compliance and academic services at Saginaw Valley State from 2012-14, then was assistant AD for compliance and the NCAA liaison at Wayne State from 2014-16.
Tiseo spent the 2016-17 school year at Northern as assistant athletic director for compliance.
While at MSHS, he served three terms as the Upper Peninsula Class A-B designee on the Michigan High School Athletic Association Representative Council, which spanned from 2019 through the current school year.
He had also been the U.P. representative on the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association board of directors since 2021 and the commissioner of the Great Lakes Hockey Conference since 2022.
He received the MIAAA Regional Athletic Director of the Year award in 2022 and the U.P. Athletic Director of the Year honor earlier this year.
