MARQUETTE — Led by Central Michigan University-bound Dasan Smith, 10 players from the Marquette Senior High School football team earned Big North Conference football honors when coaches decided the awards on Nov. 9.

Smith, a senior, was named First Team on offense and defense, both sides of the ball as a lineman.

Listed on the Marquette roster at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, Smith was chosen as the Mitchell Snyder Lineman of the Year at the 11-player football All-Upper Peninsula meeting by the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

Those awards were made the day before the Big North honors were decided.

This was the first year that MSHS was a member of the Big North after the Great Northern Conference broke up in football.

The league includes all MSHAA Division 3 schools like Marquette except for one, Escanaba, which is in Division 4.

The third U.P. school in the league is Sault Ste. Marie, while the Lower Peninsula members are Petoskey, Alpena, Gaylord and Cadillac.

Four of Smith’s Marquette teammates joined him in earning First Team laurels.

Fellow offensive lineman Talon Smith, a junior, earned the honor on offense, as did junior tight end Jacob MacPhee and senior wide receiver Wyatt Lakenen.

On defense, Marquette sophomore Ford Richardson was honored on the First Team as a back.

On the Second Team, senior Tucker Welch earned recognition at running back, as did senior Kutler Braun at linebacker.

And on the honorable mention list was MSHS junior Kyler Sager at wide receiver, junior Sawyer Johnson at kicker and senior Eli Lusk on the offensive line.

Here are the rest of the honors listed by position, with each player’s year and school. Special teams players are listed with offense or defense:
