Max Dawson scores 5 more goals in pair of Marquette Senior High School boys soccer wins

MARQUETTE — Max Dawson scored five goals in a pair of road games during the past week to bump his season total to 35 and help the Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team win both games.
The Redmen downed Houghton 7-2 and Sault Ste. Marie 5-1.
MSHS improved to 19-2-2 this season as it prepares for its final regular-season game, a home contest against Houghton at 6 p.m. Wednesday that was rescheduled from mid-September.

Marquette 7, Houghton 2
On Saturday in Houghton, Dawson opened the scoring in the first half with back-to-back goals as MSHS built a 4-0 halftime lead.
Dawson’s first goal was assisted by Isaac Johnson and Evan Sysko, while his second came on a penalty kick.
Adding to the early Marquette onslaught was Kaleb Chipelewski scoring from Dixon Poggi on a corner kick, along with Ezra Pickard scoring with an assist going to Dawson.
In the second half, Dawson, Chipelewski and Cody Struck scored goals with assists credited to Ethan Sandstrom, Struck, Ben Wilson and Alexi Caron.
Earning the win was MSHS goalkeeper James Barch, who faced two shots in the first half and four in the second half as the Gremlins got both their goals after intermission.

Marquette 5, Sault Ste. Marie 1
On Wednesday in Sault Ste. Marie, Dawson scored the Redmen’s first and last goals as MSHS assumed a 3-0 halftime advantage.
“We are happy with the result,” MSHS head coach Dan Salmon said in an email. “We executed most of the game plan well. It is a good road win.”
Dawson’s opening goal was assisted by Evan Sysko, while Pickard had the later goals in the first half, his first one assisted by Jack Sysko and the second one by Johnson.
Johnson made it 4-0 during the second half on a goal assisted by Sandstrom and Pickard before the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard.
Dawson rounded out the scoring with his goal assisted by Mason Bocklund.
Marquette netminder Edan Hautamaki faced just two shots.
