Define greatness

To the Journal editor:

Education is the backbone of democracy, so why is this administration attacking the teaching of history in our schools. History is inclusive to all people, regardless of race, ethnicity or color. It is not exclusive to any race or place of origin. History is inclusive to one and all inhabitants of this planet, not the property of one color, status or ability or money.

This administration is attacking all that differ and are critical or other comments concerning its policies, especially those as laid down in Project 2025, their playbook that seeks to undermine, if not destroy, democracy as we know it or laid down by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution, which they are seeking to bypass by all means they deem possible, ignoring the separation of powers as laid down in said Constitution.

They do not want an even playing field which the general public and does actively participate. It is obvious that money speaks volumes in this endeavor to sabotage government of the people, by the people and for the people, but for the wealthy few.

This is leading to fascism, which seeks to erase history, to rewrite the past, to control the future and better control the people and the future and bring us closer to George Orwell’s 1984.

Does that sound far-fetched? You hear those in this administration coming down on woke, critical race theory as if it was some demonic threat to the Democracy they are attacking. Both woke and critical race theory what? Woke refers to the awareness of social and political issues affecting African Americans.

Critical race theory is history and “focused on the relationships between social conception of race, social and political issues, and the mass media. Included within is systematic racism in laws and rules, not exclusive upon individual prejudices. We need to bring back where it no longer exists, social studies and civics in government.

When I was in high school, class of 1961, social studies and government were part of the curriculum. Are now and if, where? Where is the debate on what is happening to and within this nation of ours? People and institutions are being attacked and threatened just because they are protesting and speaking out against this Administration’s policies and actions, threatening legal action and worse.

The phrase shock and awe comes to mind which sounds like a war on democracy and the people of this nation who do not accept the philosophy of MAGA, Project 2025 and the dominance and power of wealthy. They are and will continue to benefit while those who survive due to government funded programs and other aid face a dire future, with programs being eliminated to fund more tax cuts to those who do not need them.

One size does not fit all. Bring back separation of powers, as laid down in the constitution, of the legislature, the judiciary and the executive office. We the people are the basis for democracy not the wealthy. Let equity exist in reality, not be the rhetoric of the parties that only profess it so. They cannot tell the truth without lying. Their words are often empty of fact, of reality, a facade backed by money, not action of benefit to the majority of the people.

Greatness comes from a nation of the people, by the people for the people, not empty slogans, not MAGA.
