You can’t make this stuff up
To the Journal editor:
The coastal breeze was a warm embrace for the meeting of two men. Bosses, king-pins, with similar beliefs, experience and swagger. Both had been top dog and both had been dethroned. Both clawed their way back to once again sit as a godfather to an organized mob.
Of the two, the old man held much more power, but he still idealized his younger counterpart, Viktor. In his country, Hungary, they call him the Viktator. You see, Viktor Orban had managed to beat down a democracy and replace it with an authoritarian regime. His regime.
He repressed minorities, turned away immigrants, commandeered free media, stifled critiques and awarded supporters, especially the very rich. He purged national ranks until every dissenter and opposing voice had been removed or silenced. In their place, he inserted carefully selected people, his people, loyal to only him.
Of the two men, Mr. Long Tie was more colorful, with a more disreputable background. This particular Don, the Con, had a rap sheet with 34 criminal felony convictions along with civil convictions that had set him back $30 million.
Slippery, this guy still managed to dodge criminal racketeering charges and a 40 felony count grand jury indictment. He definitely knew guys, guys in the right places. He hired the best lawyers and sought out sympathetic judges.
At the Don’s fortified compound, Mar-a-Loco, they came from all corners to kiss the ring. Billionaires who knew that to garner favor they must pay homage, giving of their riches and dignity. As for his legislative minions, they dared not speak against his reckless, vindictive actions for fear of reprisal.
Don the Con, you see, emulated and admired authoritarian strong-men and their tactics. Of Orban, the Don said, “They say he’s a strong-man. Sometimes you need a strong-man.” Adding, “He’s a no-controversial figure because he says, ‘This is the way it’s going to be,’ and that’s the end of it. He’s the boss.” Don the Con no longer felt like a wannabe, he was the king bee.
Someone ought to make a movie out of this! We’ve got hush money, conspiracy, stolen documents, sexual abuse, an adult film star, coercion of state officials and charges of insurrection.
A guy that beat the rap, is back on top, moving in and taking over! He’s got his fingers into everything, and he’s out for revenge.
Is this outrageous fiction, or fact? What do you think?
