To the Journal editor:

The U.S. Marine Corps was founded 246 years ago at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since 1921, we, who are Marines, celebrate the birth of our corps on 10 Nov. (today)

Our citizens have called upon and counted on the Marines to do what we do best, defend American soil and protect our way of life and freedoms. A mission that we all swore an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.”

As Marines, we are extremely proud of our history and our legacy. As we celebrate the birthday of our Corps, please remember our legacy and those that served before us.

Be proud of your Marine Corps and your Marine Corps League.

And lastly, the Marine Corps League Lake Superior Detachment 764 would like to invite all Marines, FMF Corpsmen and family members to helps us celebrate our corps birthday today, at the Casa Calabria, 1106 North Third St., Marquette, starting at 6 p.m.

Pizza, snacks and cake provided, cash bar and prizes.
