MDOT, MDNR study on wildlife crossings a waste
We sincerely believe that Jack L. Schneider has a point.
Who is Jack L. Schneider and what point does he have? The who is easy. He’s a Mining Journal reader. His point is a bit more complicated but still easy to understand.
In Tuesday’s Mining Journal, Schneider, who resides in the Marquette area, opined in a letter to the editor that $584,000 the Michigan Department of the Transportation and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is planning to spend on a statewide Wildlife Crossing Study is a waste of time and money.
Yes!
“Apparently, the focus will be on vehicle crash hotspots involving deer, bear, moose, elk and turkeys with the goal to reduce vehicle crashes and protect threatened wildlife species and with the study expected to last 3 years,” Schneider wrote. “Police agencies throughout the state that investigate vehicle crashes are required to document specific data related to each crash. Information like location, time of day, direction of travel and cause of the crash is documented by the investigating agency.”
We join Schneider in suggesting government vector the funds into a road improvement project somewhere and never mind the Wildlife Crossing Study.
