If election didn’t go your way, stop and take breath
The entire world changed on Tuesday after Donald Trump and the GOP secured a sweeping, decisive victory at the polls, taking the White House and the Senate.
At the time of writing, the House of Representatives hangs in the balance but betting odds would suggest that the Republican party will control all three bodies of the United States government when all of the votes are counted.
For many, this result is a dream come true.
For others, it is a worst case scenario. For those who did not have the election go their way, there is considerable worry about the state of the country moving forward.
Everyone has their own reasons why they think the results of the election turned out the way they did.
Inflation, geopolitical tensions and voter apathy are some of the reasons that pundits have assigned to the causes and it is hard to argue with those but we will leave those diagnoses to them.
If the election didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to, its understandable that you are worried and you have every right to feel the way you do.
One thing that is important to remember though is that you are not alone. Millions of others around the country feel how you feel. You have a community around you. Take an opportunity to connect to others.
Regardless of how you voted, you are probably feeling exhausted from the length and intensity of the election.
If you are scared or if you are thrilled, take a break. Watch a favorite movie, read a cozy story, play a video game, watch sports, do whatever you need to do to refresh yourself.
This is a time to focus on what you can control. Realize that politics doesn’t have to be everything.
No matter how you are feeling, it is important to not get too high or too low.
