Ronald Baggett

MARQUETTE, MI-December 17, 1937 – April 11, 2025

Ronald “Ron” Andy Baggett, age 87, of Marquette, passed away peacefully at his home on April 11, 2025, in the loving care of his family.

Ron was born on December 17, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, a son of Andrew and Mildred (Humphrey) Baggett. He was raised in Detroit and attended Cooley High School. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette–a place that would eventually become his home.

Following his military service, Ron worked for various local construction companies, where he developed a skill for tile setting. This expertise eventually led him to buy into Matthews Floor Fashions alongside his brothers-in-law, a business he dedicated himself to until his retirement at the age of 70. Even in retirement, he continued taking on flooring jobs well into his later years.

He was a gifted woodworker who could craft just about anything. He found joy in paint-by-number artwork, gardening, snowmobiling, and trips to Las Vegas. One of his greatest joys was spending time at Bear Paw Lodge on the AAA, a place he co-owned and loved dearly.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Baggett of Marquette; his nine children: Colleen Grant and Brian Baggett, both of Milwaukee, WI; Sandra Kirchenberg, Waukesha, WI; Suzette (Long) Nguyen of Green Bay, WI; Lawrence “Bugs” LeBlanc and Mark LeBlanc, both of Bay Mills, MI; Audrey (Mike) Breakie; Shelly (Stephen) Morris of Bay Mills; and Tracy (Jake) Thomann of Marquette. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a special niece, Pam Matthews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Nancy Baggett, Joyce Spencer, and Carolyn Sanders.

Honoring Ron’s wishes, no public services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Ron’s memory. The family would like to express a special thanks to the caregivers of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
