Lillian Pomeroy

MARQUETTE, MI- Lillian “Lil” Margaret Pomeroy, age 94, of Marquette, Michigan, danced her way into Heaven on March 21, 2025. Prior to her passing, she was in the loving care of family and the care teams at Trillium House and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.

Lil will always be remembered for her optimism, kind spirit, smile, reading books and the Sunday paper, playing Scrabble (her way), working puzzles, making words with “Bananagrams”, and her love for dogs, birds, sweets, dancing, sewing and roller-skating. She was born November 1, 1930, in Marquette, Michigan to the late Harold and Eileen (Butler) Button and step daughter of Charlie Diedrich. Lillian grew up in Marquette and moved to California for 15 years, returning to Marquette with her family. She spent her retirement years in Paradise, Michigan and returned to Marquette to spend the remaining few years of her precious life with family. During her retirement, she was able to travel the world and spend weeks and months with family and friends. She was a true “Grandma” in every sense of the word. Lillian lived a life of little means for many years and always put her children and family first. Words alone will never explain Lillian’s selflessness and true loving spirit she blessed everyone with. Lillian will be missed every day but she has left a small part of her in you to carry forward and bring joy to the world. She became a beloved Grandma to the Trillium House staff and volunteers who enjoyed her lovely spirit and grew to love her and hearing about Marquette history.

She is survived by her brother James (Joan) Button of Duxbury, MA, and her children Sharon Snow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Cathy (Gary) Lawrence of Peoria, Arizona; Rob (Lisa) Balmes of Negaunee, Michigan; Eileen Harrison of Madison, Wisconsin; Bill Balmes and Ted Balmes of Marquette, Michigan; Joyce (Karl) Muno of San Antonio, Texas; Bruce (Sharon) Pomeroy of Newberry, Michigan; Gail (Jay) Strever of Billings, Montana; Diane (Ron) Monroe of Reed City, Michigan; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Ernie Pomeroy (husband of 40 years), Harold Button, Eileen (Charlie) Diedrich, her brother Charlie (Arlene) Button, and sisters Mary Button, Joyce (Joe) Beaudry, and Ann Button.

A special private memorial service will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Trillium House at 1144 Northland Ave Marquette MI 49855 or trilliumhouse.org.
