Arthur Rautio

MICHIGAMME, MI- Arthur R. Rautio, age 69, lifelong Michigamme resident, passed away on Thursday April 3, 2025 at his home while in the loving care of his family, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Art was born in Ishpeming on April 27, 1955, son of the late Leonard and Fern (Paquette) Rautio. He attended the Imperial Heights School in Michigamme before moving to Texas to work in the oil fields for several years. He eventually made his return to the UP where he worked in the well drilling business, as well as out in the woods in the logging industry. Art married his wife of just shy of 22 years Cheryl Ball on April 5, 2003.

Art was a member of the Michigamme/Spurr Twp. Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years, as well as the Baraga Trappers Association. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and cutting wood. Art loved spending time at his camp, his favorite times of the year were deer season, partridge season, and ice fishing season.

Art is survived by his wife- Cheryl (Ball) Rautio, 4 sisters- Betty (Jack) Robinson, JoAnn Prisk, Fern (Raynor) Johnson, Karen LaPin, along with several nieces and nephews including his god daughter- Alicia Christine Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers.

Art’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Michigamme Community Building from 1:00pm until 4:00pm on Sunday April 27, 2025 where a celebration of life and potluck will be held in honor of Art’s life and his 70th birthday, Pastor Paul Peterson will preside over a prayer service as well.
