VALPARAISO, IN- Joyce Isabelle Jensen, 99, formerly of Ishpeming and Negaunee, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Life Care Center of Valparaiso.
Joyce was born March 6, 1925 in Ishpeming to Werner and Gertrude (Brolin) Goethe and graduated from Ishpeming High School. She married Allen Jensen on March 28, 1944, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in June of 1996. They enjoyed many camping trips at various parks in the UP and traveling to visit their children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family and loved to cook and bake, go on picnics, and spend winters in Florida with her children. She was also an avid reader.
Mrs. Jensen was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee, where she sang in the choir for over 50 years, singing for weddings and funerals, and also belonged to the Negaunee Choral Club. She enjoyed singing to the very end, even singing to her children over the phone.
Surviving are her children: Richard (Kathleen) Jensen of Lexington, KY, Judith (Jay) Osburn of Tecumseh, Darlene (Roy) Norell of Chesterton, IN and Brent (Michelle Kyles) Jensen of Green Bay; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Karen Goethe and Martha Goethe; special friend, Beverly Jennings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Allen, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Elsie (Donald) Carlson and Gladys (Lester) Ball; and brothers: Norman (Katherine) Goethe, Ralph (Lois) Goethe, Paul (Martha) Goethe, Alfred (Rosalie) Goethe, and Dr. Roy (Karen) Goethe.
Memorial services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Negaunee this upcoming Summer with the date and time to be announced.
