John Lenore, Sr.

MARQUETTE, MI – John Joseph Lenore Sr., age 92, of Marquette, passed away March 5, 2025 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, John lived a life full of hard work, love, and dedication to those he cherished.
Born in Clarksburg, Michigan, on July 10, 1932, the son of Eugene and Pauline (Decaire) Lenore, John was raised in Marquette. He answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Navy in 1954. He served for four years during the Korean Conflict, demonstrating his steadfast commitment to duty. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Margaret Wessman, on June 16, 1956, at St. Peter Cathedral. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their family in Marquette.
John worked tirelessly in the construction industry, employed by various contractors throughout his career. He spent 20 years with Menze Construction Company, where he took on many roles, including laborer and cement finisher. His strong work ethic carried him through until his well-earned retirement at the age of 62.
Outside of work, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at camp. He cherished walks with his wife, especially around the Island, and the travels they shared together. A passionate sports fan, he never missed a chance to cheer on the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Michigan football and basketball teams. He also took great pride in his vegetable garden, particularly his tomato plants, which he nurtured with care.
John is survived by his sons, John Lenore of Negaunee Township and Michael Lenore of Marquette; his sisters, Eileen (Gary) Fisk of Marquette and Betty (Richard) Mauermann of Marion, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Margaret; and a sister, Alice Lenore.
Interment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery with private family graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
