Gertrude Leaf

MARQUETTE MI- Gertrude Elizabeth Leaf, age 96, of Marquette, formerly of Trout Creek, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, in Marquette, Michigan.
Gertrude was born and raised in Trout Creek, Michigan on December 6, 1928, the daughter of Werner and Hilja (Jyvala) Kallio. It was in Trout Creek where she cultivated the strong values of family, faith, and perseverance that defined her life. She graduated from Trout Creek High School with the Class of 1945. On November 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Marvin Leaf. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion, living in Marquette and Detroit before returning home to Trout Creek, where they raised their family.
A dedicated homemaker, Gertrude lovingly cared for her home and family, ensuring their needs were always met. From tending to the household and raising her children to using home remedies for ailments, she embraced her role with unwavering commitment.
Gertrude found joy in many simple yet meaningful pleasures. She loved dancing with her husband, cooking, and knitting. Some of her fondest moments were spent taking peaceful rides around Presque Isle and along the shores of Lake Superior. Passionate and strong-willed, she was a source of warmth and support to her family, friends, and loved ones.
She is survived by her children: Gerald (Nancy) Leaf of Ewen, MI; Duane (Mary) Leaf of Bruce Crossing, MI; James Leaf of North Augusta, SC; Thomas (Marge) Leaf of Bessemer, MI; and Lois (Eric) Abramson of Bruce Crossing, MI. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Marvin; a daughter-in-law, Karen Leaf; a granddaughter, Jana Lynn Leaf; and her siblings, Paul Kallio, Raymond Kallio, Ruth Kuntz, and Dorothy Maki.
A service to honor and celebrate Gertrude’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek at a later date.
