MARQUETTE, MI – Cheryl Sue “Suey” (L’Huillier) Blackburn, age 70, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Marquette, the daughter of Henry and Ina (Beaudry) L’Huillier, Sue graduated from Marquette Senior High School with the class of 1972. On October 27, 1973, she married the love of her life, David Blackburn, and together they built a beautiful home and life in Marquette.
Sue was a dedicated homemaker and a loving mother whose heart and home were always open to others. Known for her remarkable creativity, she could transform anything into something extraordinary. Sue was a talented decorator and party planner who loved hosting themed gatherings that brought joy to everyone around her. Her witty humor, warm personality, and kind-hearted nature made her a beloved figure in the community.
She was known for her famous sugar cookies with her signature frosting, lovingly known as “cheerleader and football cookies.” Sue had a passion for baking, and her kitchen was always filled with love and delicious treats.
Sue and David were actively involved in their children’s lives and community events, including running the concessions for the Booster Club for many years. Sue never missed a moment in her children and grandchildren’s lives and was their biggest fan at every event.
She cherished Saturdays spent with David at rummage sales, lunches with her friends, and a classic McDonald’s Coke with extra ice. Sue had a love for themed parties, scary movies, and Halloween. Her fur babies, Cupcake and Bella, were always by her side.
Together, Sue and David welcomed many foster children into their home, sharing their love and generosity with all who needed it. Sue was a mother to all, making everyone feel welcomed and cherished.
As a child, she could spend entire days swimming in the quarry, and her adventurous spirit stayed with her throughout her life. She found joy in being surrounded by people and was the heart and soul of every gathering.
Sue is survived by her loving children: Bridget (Todd) Jennings, Beau (Jolynn) Blackburn, Brett (Ashley) Blackburn, and Brittany (Spencer) Larson, all of Marquette. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Aubree, Skyler, Landon, and Sawyer Blackburn, and Savannah, Scarlett, and Stryker Larson. She is also survived by her siblings: Rose Marie (Paul) Paquette, Henry Robert L’Huillier, Paul (Mary) L’Huillier, and Rebecca L’Huillier, all of Marquette, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, David; her beloved daughter, Becky Blackburn; her brother, John “Jack” L’Huillier; and a sister, Sue Carol L’Huillier.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm with a time for sharing memories at 1:00 pm. A reception will be held in the funeral home reception room during the visitation.
