CHOCOLAY TWP, MI- Samuel Lee Fry, age 79, of Chocolay Township, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, at UP Health System Marquette in the loving care of his family.
Samuel was born and raised in Tiffin, Ohio. He graduated from Mohawk High School with the Class of 1963. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate, stationed around the world for six years.
Following his honorable military service, Samuel settled in Toledo, Ohio, where he worked at General Mills. His adventurous spirit led him to pursue his passion for fishing by running a charter service with his boat, the Gamefisher.
On October 9, 1982, Samuel married the love of his life, Judy Scheiding, and the couple made their home in Marquette, Michigan. There, he worked as a stationary engineer at the Board of Light and Power, dedicating approximately 20 years to his craft.
Samuel was a man of many passions. He loved fishing, bowling, cooking on the grill, and taking his grandchildren out on the boat. An avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, he also enjoyed watching football, traveling, and cutting firewood. His selfless nature led him to volunteer nationally for the American Red Cross.
He was known for his caring heart, thoughtfulness, and friendly demeanor. Samuel never met a stranger; his warm personality and generous spirit allowed him to form lasting friendships wherever he went.
Samuel is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his children, Sam (Lisa) Fry of Ohio, Gene Tuimala of Marquette, and Tammy Arvon of Marquette; his grandchildren, Richard Fry, Glenn (Ashley) Fry, Christopher Tuimala, and Ashley (Ethan) Locke; and his great-grandchildren, Henry Fry, Adalynn Fry, Jayce Tuimala, Arabella and Lilly Locke.
