Larry Blandford

NEGAUNEE, MI-Larry Maynard Blandford, 82, of Negaunee, passed away on February 4, 2025 at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Larry was born on May 14, 1942 in Manistique, MI to Maynard and Marie (Williams) Blandford. He graduated from Manistique High School in 1960. After high school, Larry went into the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam Vet.

Larry married Hazel Toennessen on June 17, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Manistique.

Larry was an employee at WLUC TV as an engineer for 50 years. He loved to be outdoors, usually walking to work every day, canoeing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Larry also enjoyed sci-fi movies, reading books, a good cup of coffee, his cookie drawer and working on Land Rovers. He collected wrist watches, knives and flashlights. Larry was also involved in many church activities throughout the years. He didn’t talk much but had a lot of humorous one-liners.

Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hazel Blandford; children, Vikki (Henry) Hamblin and Andrew (Michelle Sokolowski) Blandford; grandchildren, Geoff (Samantha Vanliden) Blandford, Gavin (Alexia Basner) Blandford, Noah Blandford, Aaden Blandford, Alyssa Blandford and Sadie Blandford; great-grandchildren, Oliver Blandford and Alteria; and siblings, Lane Blandford, Les Blandford and Lindsay Blandford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Marie Blandford; and brother, Leon Blandford.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, February 21, 2025 at NorthIron Church in Ishpeming starting at 12 noon. A memorial service will be held in the church at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mark Broberg officiating. Military honors will be provided.
