Judith Anderson

ISHPEMING, MI- Judith Ann Anderson, age 85, longtime Green Creek resident, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at UP Health System Marquette.

Judith was born on April 20, 1939, in Ishpeming, MI, to the late Lempi A. (Aho) and Michael G. Pietro. She grew up in National Mine, where she fondly remembered walking through the woods to attend National Mine School, regardless of the weather. Judy also cherished memories of taking the bus to Ishpeming to watch movies all day for just ten cents, with Roy Rogers being one of her favorite stars.

A proud graduate of National Mine High School, Class of 1957, Judy married her high school sweetheart, Ray Anderson, on July 6, 1957. In their early years, they shared a love for square dancing with a close-knit group of friends from Green Creek, who were more like family. This group, which included the Blau, Keto, Johnson and Kroons. They often joked, “The last one’s back to Green Creek must close the gate.” Through the years, fun was always had with the Anderson, Pietro, Juntila, Mongiat, Juntti, Thornton, Kippola, Koval and Tasson families. Judy loved music, the Ventures, the Eagles and Credence Clearwater Revival were some of her favorites to whom she would sing and dance.

Ray was the love of Judy’s life. Their bond was unbreakable, and together, they enjoyed countless adventures. From snowmobiling and camping to car shows and traveling to places like Route 66, Hawaii, and Florida every winter, they made cherished memories together. Most of all, Judy found joy in being at home with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Judy worked alongside Ray as the secretary for his excavating business. She was deeply dedicated to caring for her family.

Judith is survived by her two sons, Michael (Sandy) Anderson and Alan (Lori) Anderson; her daughter, Kathleen (Dan) Carlson, all of Ishpeming; her grandchildren, Raymond (Shaylee) Anderson, Rachel (Brad) Perala, Megan (John) Jessen, Anthony (Fred Macatula) Carlson, and Rocco (Elizabeth Williams) Carlson; her sister, Julie (Bob) Tasson; her brothers, Michael Pietro and Roger Pietro; and her sister-in-law, Mary Anderson, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray Anderson (2019), in-laws Otto and Andrea Anderson, sisters-in-law Ann Pietro, Marilyn Pietro, Lorraine Anderson, and brother-in-law Bob Anderson.

In keeping with Judy’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family plans a celebration of her life on July 6, 2025.
