MARQUETTE, MI- Jon N. Makela 71, passed away February 8, 2025 at his home in Marquette in the dedicated care of his sister, Susan, U.P. Health & Hospice and beloved lap dog, Cocoa, after a prolonged illness.
Jon was born to Eino and Laila (Leek) Makela on June 1, 1953, raised in Covington, MI. and graduated from L’Anse High School in 1971. He completed Naval Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and worked as an operating room tech at Marquette General.
Jonny Mak, as he was known to his friends, always had warm and friendly greetings for everyone and possessed a special gift for recalling names and significant events. Jon read his Bible faithfully and persevered with a strong and everlasting faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jon will be sorely missed by his sister, Susan (Dave) Grimes of Marquette; two nephews and a niece as well as several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law, Salome and Aarne Holmio.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 12 – 1 pm with a service at 1:00 pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Harvey with Pastor Alex LaChapelle officiating. Spring burial will take place at Covington Twp. Cemetery in Covington, MI.
