Clara McCormick

MARINETTE, MI- Clara “Kitty” McCormick passed away on February 13th, 2025, after a brief illness. She was 95 years old and was living life to the fullest.
She was born on October 18, 1929 in Marquette, Michigan to Edna and Albert Gauthier and had 6 brothers. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1947. Being the only girl of seven children, she learned to be patient, strong, caring and loving. All of these early years were spent in Marquette.
It was in Marquette that she met the love of her life, George “Bud” McCormick. They had 5 children, 4 daughters and a son. She was small in stature but raised her children to stand tall and proud and to be respectful of others, always made time for their needs as well as their friend’s needs. After moving to lower Michigan for a short time, they raised their family in Gwinn, Michigan. She was known by most as “Kitty”, a name she inherited as a little girl. George passed away at the young age of 51 in 1981.
Kitty enjoyed life. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. She loved family gatherings, watching sporting events, knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, casino trips and enjoying the fresh air and watching her flowers grow. She was always there to help others. Her kindness was never ending. She had a great sense of pride in her family and always was willing to share a story.
The last two years of her life were spent in Marinette, Wi at the Cottages Assisted Living in a cute apartment she loved. She moved to be closer to more of her family. There she enjoyed all the new friends she made and activities they provided. She was one of the first to greet the new people that moved in.
Kitty is survived by her 4 daughters, Cathy Knight, Patty(Nate)Salzman, Karen(Mike)Anttonen and Mary(Brian)Chernetski and 1 son, Mike(Linda)McCormick. She is survived by 10 grandchildren. Each one of them had a special place in her heart. Joanne(Jamie)Mathews, Jenny(Josh)Knight, Sheryl(Randy)Goin, Kevin(Christie)Coduti, Mark(Jessie)Coduti, Danny(Jessie)Chernetski, Emily(Marty)Kulwich, Sarah(Josh)Gustafson, Joshua(Katie)Anttonen and Alex(Jen)Dipple. In addition, she had 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-
grandchildren.
She is further survived by 3 brothers, Jim(Marlys)Gauthier, Joe Gauthier and Tom(Linda)Gauthier, and Sister in law Helen McCormick as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Friday, February 21st at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Gwinn, Michigan. (310 West Iron Street) Visitation from 1pm – 2:30pm EST. Service 2:30pm EST. Cadieu Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
