Boyne Mitchell

PRINCETON, MI- Boyne David Mitchell, 77, entered God’s eternal kingdom Friday, February 14, 2025.

Boyne was born on March 24, 1947, in Sault Ste Marie, MI.

On December 13, 1969, he married the love of his life, Irene Mitchell. Together they raised their five children in a home always filled with noise and love.

He honorably served our country in the United States Navy.

He was a retired and respected member of the Carpenters and Millwrights Union Local 1510.

He loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, going to camp with his family, and coming to the rescue for so many of us. If it was broken, he could fix it. If he couldn’t fix it, he could build a better one. His loss leaves behind a hole in our hearts that only he could fix. His seat at Mitchell’s Ponderosa can never be filled.

The pride and joy of his life were his family, including his siblings, Sharon (Bill) Dani, Margaret (John) Costello , Mike Mitchell, Jill (Bruce) Paris, Mark (Amber) Mitchell; his children, Vicki (Chip) Nelson, Christina (Bob) O’Day, Dawn Mitchell, Kenny Rider; his grandchildren, Craig Nelson, Robert Nelson, Alyssia Nunez, Megan O’Day (husband Cody Dugrenier), Dylan Landers, Athena Potier, Lucas Rider, Malona (Travis) Gould, Dana Lee Rider, Brett Rider, Jason Rider, Melissa Rider; and his 18 great-grandchildren. He cherished countless friendships he had with many who share in our loss. He was preceded in death by his parents (Albertine and Orville Mitchell), wife (Irene Mitchell), brother (John “Jack” Mitchell), daughter (Tina Mitchell) and grandson (Devin Alessandroni).

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services to follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Gwinn, MI. A luncheon will be held in the church basement following the service.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. The staff and residents were Boyne’s second family for the last five months. Our family is eternally grateful for the love and care they provided to him.

If a man’s wealth was measured by the number of times he laughed, smiled and enjoyed life, he was the richest among us! His smile, his love and his selfless nature will live on through his family and friends.
