Angeline Phillips

MARQUETTE, MI-Angeline A. “Angie” Phillips, 103, of Marquette, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Mill Creek Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Angeline was born on January 7, 1922 in Calumet, MI to Mathew and Anna (Graheck) Spreitzer. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1941.

Angeline married Frederick H. Phillips on January 22, 1942. They moved to St. Ignace, MI and resided there for 12 years until they moved to Marquette in 1959 where they would spend the rest of their years.

In 1964, Angie worked at the Plaid Stamp Store until 1966 when she started work at the State Fish Hatchery. Two years later she transferred to the Ford Station for the Department of Natural Resources. She retired in 1982.

Angie was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey since 1959. She was an active member in her earlier years in various roles of the church. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting. All nine of her grandchildren were recipients of one of her quilts, as well as her four children. Numerous afghans were knitted for weddings, showers and silent auctions at church.

Angie is survived by her two sons, William H. Phillips of Negaunee and Robert (Diane) Phillips of Marquette; her daughter, Paulette Hytinen of Marquette; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick H. Phillips; son, Frederick J. “Fred” Phillips; son-in-law, Paul Hytinen; siblings, Ann Bailey, Matthew Spreitzer and Frank Spreitzer; and infant sibling, Stephen Spreitzer.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Louis the King Catholic Church starting at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the church starting at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Merkel officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
