Peter Sevegney
ISHPEMING, MI – Peter Paul Sevegney, age 72, passed away peacefully into the presence of God on December 29, 2024, at the Trillium House in Marquette, MI while in the loving care of his family and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.
Pete was born February 13, 1952, to the late Francis and Dorothy (Chantelois) Sevegney. He was a 1970 graduate of the Republic-Michigamme High School. During those years he excelled in the sports of basketball, track, and baseball. Later he played with the Republic Baseball Team for several years. He lived with his family in Republic in the house he built on the Michigamme River, and for the past 25 years had resided in Ishpeming Township. Pete was employed by Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad, retiring after 30 years with the company. He was an early riser, eager to seize the day. His life was defined by hard work and an unwavering love for his family. “Sky Camp,” the retreat he built and worked on for over 30 years was his happy place on this earth. With hunting, developing gardens for Norma, and being the master caretaker of the land, he was truly content.
Pete’s joy in life was found in being with his family which included his loving wife of 47 years, Norma (Kangas) Sevegney, of Ishpeming Twp., the two children he was blessed with; daughter Michele (Wael) Khouli of Marquette and grandchildren Zane Peter and Laila Mary Khouli, daughter Allison (Steve) Sevegney-Reynolds of Okemos and granddaughter Sienna Michele Reynolds, brother Francis (Lenore) Sevegney, brothers-in-law Len Laurila and Jim Perry, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pete was reunited with his family members in heaven; parents Francis & Dorothy Sevegney, in-laws Arthur & Helen Kangas, beloved sister Mary Couveau and husband John, brother John Sevegney, brother-in-law Donnie Kangas and wife Sharon, sisters-in-law Janet Laurila and Sharon Perry, and also his loyal canine companion of 14 years, his boxer “Cool Hand Luke.”
