Nineth Kanieski

Nineth was born August 22, 1942, in Chiquimula, Guatemala (Central America) to the late Jenaro and Maria (Morales) Madrid. She was one of six children.

Nineth was a graduate of the Modern Institute of Chiquimula in 1963 and became a primary school teacher in St. Ana Mixtan Guatemala before meeting her husband, Michael F. Kanieski.

She married Michael on June 30, 1967, in Guatemala City. Shortly after, she and Michael moved back to the states and lived their entire married life on their dairy farm in Crystal Falls. Michael preceded her in death on August 18, 2017.

In November 2017, Nineth relocated to Marquette and lived both at Snowberry Heights and Mill Creek. During her spare time, Nineth enjoyed cross stitching, word searches, and being fit by walking. Nineth also had a love for music, especially her home country’s Guatemalan marimba music. Nineth cherished time with her family, especially being with her granddaughters. Although she missed her home country, she loved living in the U.P.

Nineth is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Gregor Koso) Kanieski of South Bend, IN, Lynn (Dan Kochanski) Kanieski of Skandia, MI, and son Robert Kanieski of Winter Park, CO; brother, Edgar Madrid; sister, Imelda; and granddaughters, Nineth and Alexandra Kanieski Koso.

In addition to her parents and husband of 50 years, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mirtala Sandoval; and brothers, Edmundo and Jenaro Madrid.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mill Creek Assisted Living and U.P. Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls in the spring of 2025.
