Mark Hiller

DEERTON, MI- Mark David Hiller, 76, of Deerton, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at Marquette Veterans Facility D.J. Jacobetti.

He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 21, 1948, a son of the late Nathan and Charlotte (Cristil) Hiller and raised there. He was a graduate of White Station High School class of 1967.

Following graduation, he served his country in the US. Army during the Vietnam War.

While on leave from Vietnam, he married the love of his life, Sonja, on August 22, 1969. The couple raised a family and lived in Memphis, Tennessee. He worked as a remodeling contractor where he owned his own business. The couple moved to Deerton in 2006 to be closer to their daughter. He retired in 2015.

His interests included hunting, fishing, loved to oil paint, coin collecting, glass etching and crafting. He was a deacon at the Harvey Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a people person, with a good sense of humor and he loved to laugh. He loved spending time with family and friends socializing, he was not a homebody. He always liked to be doing something. He was self-motivated and would always find something to do. He loved to sing in the choir and did solos.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sonja Hiller of Deerton; daughter, Robin (Gary) Barajas of Deerton; brothers, Richard (Susan) Hiller of Memphis, TN, Roy (Charlene) Hiller of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Cara (Russ) Ferrier of Wolverine, MI; great-grandson, Copeland Ferrier of Wolverine, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 4 pm at Harvey Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Sego officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Marquette American Legion and US Army. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation and Michael J Fox Foundation.
