Luke Kostreva
ISHPEMING, MI- Luke Matthew Kostreva, age 21, passed away on Friday January 17, 2025 due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Luke was born on December 5, 2003 in Marquette, son of EJ and Christy (Bivins) Kostreva. Luke grew up in the local area, attending both Marquette, and Ishpeming Public Schools, graduating from Ishpeming High School with the class of 2022. Following graduation in true Luke fashion, he attended Northern Michigan University for one day, before switching to pursue the trades after experiencing the colorful side of what is now higher education. Luke worked for Karki Drywall where his work ethic and personality shined bright, allowing him to quickly climb the ladder to Foreman at his very young age.
Luke loved hunting, and fishing, cherishing going on a yearly hunting trip to Iron River with his family. He enjoyed playing many sports over his life, reigning as MVP of his pop warner football team back in the day, to playing 4 years of football at IHS, 4 years of baseball for the Ishpeming Legion team, and was also a member of the IHS state championship track team. Luke loved going for rides on his side by side, hot tubbing, having campfires, dancing, singing, spending time on the water at this parents home on the Dead River Basin, and working with his Karki Drywall family.
Luke is survived by his parents- EJ and Christy (Bivins) Kostreva, fiancee- Jadin O’Dovero daughter of Joe and Deanna, maternal grandparents- Dave and Val Bivins, paternal grandmother- Barbara J. Schmidt, 2 brothers- Eric (Rylie) Kostreva, Ethan Kostreva, 1 niece- Selah Kostreva, 2 nephews- Amos and Shepherd Kostreva, his beloved puppy- Lola, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather- Edward Kostreva, uncle- Eric R. Kostreva, and step-grandfather- Marshall Schmidt.
Luke’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday January 25, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 4:00pm at the CrossBridge Church located at 119 N. 3rd St. Ishpeming, MI 49849. Luke’s funeral service will begin at 4:00pm with Rev. Kevin McIlhany and Rev. Mark Larson officiating. A meal and reception will follow the services at the church. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Luke’s good friends and brothers- Eric and Ethan.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First-Bank 1502 W. Washington St. Marquette, MI 49855 where an account will be set up for a future scholarship fund in memory of Luke.
