Lois Fredin

Kyle, TX- Lois Ann (Herman) Fredin, 81, of Kyle, Texas, passed away peacefully at Ascension Seton Hospital with her family by her side on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

She was born on November 29, 1943, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to William and Ruth (Savola) Herman.

In 1961, Lois graduated from Negaunee High School and married Raymond “Skeeter” Theodore Fredin, the love of her life, on July 22 in Negaunee, Michigan. Together, they raised four children: Steven, Gary, Bradley, and Julie.

Lois was known for her remarkable zest for life and spirit. She was a “clean machine” and the “fastest painter in the west” and embraced every moment with energy and humor… Some of her most cherished times were spent at the camp on the Dead River–around the campfire or on the pontoon boat–living in Napa Valley sipping wine with loved ones, playing cards or cribbage with friends, and soaking up the sun on the beaches of Maui, enjoying “island time.”

Her greatest joy in life was her family. Lois was a proud grandmother to Chad (Lainey) Albrecht, Kelsea (Marko) Sotto, Sarah (Tommi) Viita, Erinn Fredin, Kaitie (Brahim) Marzouki, Claire Fredin, Carley Fredin, and Emma Fredin, as well as a beloved great-grandmother to Calix, Lovisa, Olivia, August, Linnea, Niko, and Sofia. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was the best grandma anyone could ever ask for.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Andrea) Fredin, Gary (Susan) Fredin, Bradley (Carrie) Fredin, and Julie (Mike) Meszaros; her sisters-in-law, Julie Herman and Joyce Herman; her grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Raymond “Skeeter” Fredin; her parents, William and Ruth Herman; her brothers Robert and Roger Herman; and her sister Jean Meyer.

In honor of Lois’s generous spirit, she donated her body to science. A Celebration of Life will take place in the summer of 2025. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Ascension Seton Hospital and Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days.
