Kathryn Toohill

Kay was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse. She was born in 1937 in Marquette, MI to the late Harold Dennett and the late Louise Dennett (nee Gaviglio). She was sister and close confidant to her dear older brother, Robert Dennett. Her mother, Louise, passed away when Kay was only five years old, and she went to live with her Aunt Rita and Uncle Herb Stoeri and their family in Midland, MI. Several years later, she returned to Marquette when her father married her beloved stepmother, Marie (Reichel) Dennett. Kay attended nursing school in Milwaukee, WI where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Toohill. They married in 1960, and after living briefly in Chicago, IL and Topsfield, MA, they moved back to Wisconsin where they settled in Wauwatosa.

Kay was a wonderful, tireless mom, actively supporting her kids in scouts, music, theater and athletics. She was involved in her church, and volunteered with several charitable and social organizations. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir at Christ King Catholic Church and later the choir at the Elm Grove Women’s Club. Kay relished spending time with family and friends at her lake cottage in Eagle Spring, WI and traveling the world with Bob, including visits to Kay’s ancestral home in northern Italy, and many winter stays in Naples, FL with their kids and grandkids. She was a voracious reader, a lover of wildflowers and birds, and an accomplished amateur photographer. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her down-to-earth personality, generous heart, and her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her five children, Carol, Kathleen (David), Robert Jr. (Jennifer), Andrew, and Patrick (Jill); her nine grandchildren, Daniel, Teresa, Grace, Edward, Ryan, Thomas, Nicole, Margaret, and Samantha; and her half-sister, Aline Fryberger.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Toohill, mother Marie Dennett (nee Reichel), and her brother, Robert Dennett (Jan).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home, 10121 W. North Ave. Wauwatosa, WI, 53226, from 1 PM until the Memorial Service at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Wauwatosa Public Library Foundation.
