Richard “Gus” Ollila
MARQUETTE, MI- Marquette, MI- Richard John “Gus” Ollila, 81, a recent resident of Mill Creek Circle and former Ishpeming Township resident passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his residence.
Richard was born in Negaunee, MI on February 6, 1943, a son of the late Adolph and Martha (Lummukka) Ollila. He married Margaret (Janson) on July 2, 1974. Gus worked mostly as a self-employed logger and for local logging companies. He enjoyed woodworking, hiking, spending time in the outdoors, and building a log home for his family in Fire Center location. Richard served six years in the Michigan National Guard with an honorable discharge.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Ollila, two children: Leif Ollila of Los Lunas, NM and Ann Ollila of Los Alamos, NM, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gus was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Adolph (Margie) Ollila, and sisters; Shirley (Ray) Salo, Bernice (Mahlon) Yoki and an infant sister Delores.
Richard family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Co. Rd. 492 Negaunee where his service will be held at 12:00 noon with Donald Johnson officiating.
A luncheon will follow at the church.
