Bennett Klein
MARQUETTE, MI- Bennett “Gentle Ben” Dale Klein, age 73, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at UP Health System-Marquette, surrounded by the loving care of his family.
Ben was born on April 26, 1951, in Marquette, Michigan, to Anton and Phyllis (Zweifel) Klein and was a lifelong resident of Marquette. He graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1969 and began his career at the Acocks facility in the maintenance department. It was there he met the love of his life, Delynn M. Eckloff. The couple married on October 1, 1977, and enjoyed 47 wonderful years together.
Following his time at Acocks, Ben joined Northern Michigan University, where he worked in maintenance, grounds, and operations. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the university, retiring in April 2009.
Ben found immense joy in spending time outdoors, especially at camp, where he enjoyed watching the river and wildlife. An avid sportsman, he loved hunting, fishing, biking, playing hockey, and cheering on NMU athletics. Above all, Ben treasured time with his family and adored his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
A man of faith, Ben was the first person confirmed at St. Michael Catholic Church as a child, a milestone that held special meaning throughout his life.
Ben is survived by his loving wife, Delynn; his two daughters, Jennifer (D.J.) Adkison of Marquette and their children, Declan and Zara Adkison, and Laura (Chris) Jason of Marquette and their children, Soren and Seth Jason; his brother, Gary (Kerry) Klein of Negaunee; and his sister, Audrey Yeater of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant grandson, Avery; and other beloved family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette, with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A luncheon will follow in the parish center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marquette Children’s Museum, 123 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
