Stephen Dagenais

MARQUETTE, MI-Stephen Ronald Dagenais, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on November 3, 2024, due to a medical event.

Steve was born in Marquette, MI on May 4, 1955, to Ron and Veronica Dagenais. He was a 1973 graduate of Marquette Senior High School and was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for thirty years, retiring in 2010. Steve married Luann “Lucy” Johnson on August 11, 1978, and together they established their home in Marquette and began raising a family.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting with lifelong friends at The Lost Dog camp in the Triple A. He especially liked to fish whether it was on his boat “One More” on Lake Superior, steelhead fishing on the Two Hearted River, walleye fishing in Canada, or ice fishing on Lake Independence. He also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Big Trout Lake in Gwinn. Steve also liked to play cribbage, watch sports and buy more fishing gear he didn’t need.

Steve was a member of the Big Bay Sportsmen Club, the Marquette Elks Lodge #405, and the Richard M. Jopling American Legion Post 44. Always ready to lend a hand to anyone, Steve was a great man and will be truly missed.

Steve is survived by his wife, Lucy; daughters Stefanie (Gary) Little of Marquette and Jessica (Jordan) Riffle of Negaunee; grandchildren Nash, Beau, Dane and Bryn Little, and Cameron Riffle; brothers Wayne (Sandra) Dagenais and Michael (Sandra) Dagenais; sisters Marcia (Daniel) DeFant and Debra Nyberg; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, mother & father-in-law, Ruth and Harry Johnson, Jr., and his favorite canine companion, Kena.

Honoring Steve’s wishes, no public service will take place. A private family graveside service will be held in the spring.
